Fife Lake Area Historical Society and the Village of Fife Lake awarded $1,000 scholarships to four well deserving Forest Area High School students. The Historical Society offers an opportunity for local high school students to earn scholarships to further their education after high school. These scholarships are earned in return for community service with the Historical Society at their three venues—museum, school house, and fire barn. The student also benefits by experiencing a work discipline, learning the history of their community, and developing interpersonal skills as a result of interacting with visitors. The four students who successfully completed the 2016-2017 program and received the scholarships are: left to right, Kyle Ingersoll, Delaney Peters, Kelsey Mills, Anne Nietling.

Fife Lake Historical Society and Fife Lake Village 2016 Community Service Scholarship
Jacob Chase, recipient of the Fife Lake Historial Society and Fife Lake Village 2016 Community Service Scholarship.

Jacob Chase was the recipient of the Fife Lake Area Historical Society and Fife Lake Village 2016 Community Service Scholarship. To receive this award, Jacob met all the scholastic and volunteer requirements over the last two years. He stated that “The Historical Society has given me an amazing opportunity to learn about my town and the people who live there. I will take my experiences with me for the rest of my life and always look back and remember what an amazing experience this has been for me. Furthermore, the $1,000 scholarship is going to help me succeed in reaching my college goals.

Jacob will graduate from Forest Area High School this spring and then finish his classes at Northern Michigan College before moving on to a larger university to complete his degree in accounting. He is a member of the National Honor Society, plays baseball, basketball, and plays percussion in the band.

The Fife Lake Area Historical Society Community Service Program was designed to give qualified students the opportunity to volunteer at the three historic venues; museum, school house, and fire barn, during the summers after their sophomore and junior years. This program supports the community volunteers and provides an opportunity for students to learn more about the history of their area as well as earn a scholarship for further education after high school.
